Amtrak Announces Nationwide Roomette Sale
December 4, 2018
By Bruce Becker, Rail Passengers Association
In a rare move, Amtrak today announced a nationwide sale on Sleeping Car roomettes, clearly aimed at boasting premium service ridership during the slower travel months in early 2019.
Under the sale, one person in a group of two will travel for free when a roomette is purchased at the regular, one person adult full or senior fare rate. The sale is being offered only via Amtrak.com from December 4th through December 11th, and is valid for travel from January 7th to May 23rd 2019.
Both travelers will enjoy all of Amtrak’s customary sleeping car amenities included complimentary meals.
Sample sale fares for two persons in a roomette start at:
- Chicago to New Orleans - $269.00
- Washington to Chicago - $275.00
- Chicago to Denver - $329.00
- New York to Chicago - $344.00
- Los Angeles to Seattle - $378.00
The sale is valid for roomettes only (not the larger bedrooms, handicap rooms or family rooms) on all overnight trains except the Auto Train. Other discounts (including the Rail Passengers Association membership 10% discount) are not applicable. While there are no black-out dates, the sale fares are based on the prevailing yield-managed, market-based fares which vary widely by train and day. The supply of roomettes is definitely limited! As always, reserving early will provide the lowest fare and most availability. Other terms and conditions apply
"It is an honor to be recognized by the Rail Passengers Association for my efforts to strengthen and expand America’s passenger rail. Golden spikes were once used by railroads to mark the completion of important rail projects, so I am truly grateful to receive the Golden Spike Award as a way to mark the end of a career that I’ve spent fighting to invest in our country’s rail system. As Chair of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, it has been my priority to bolster funding for Amtrak, increase and expand routes, look to the future by supporting high-speed projects, and improve safety, culminating in $66 billion in new funding in the Bipartisan infrastructure Law."
